Fashion Crazed Foodie Loves Music! Meet: Drea

font-size:14pt; color:black;

Stylish Singer/Songwriter, Drea

font-size:14pt;Drea is unlike any other Gospel artist I know.  I've found myself "Body Rocking" and outright lost in worship, dancing to her buoyant, not-so-typical sound. Her music-produced by husband, JonJon Traxx is a revivifying gift of hope; laced with heavy-hitting beats and her divine vocals; loaded with promise and praise. The effervescence in Drea's contemporary Gospel music supersedes age, denomination, and all other man-made boundaries to speak to the hurting and the happy.

Drea is notorious for her posh style, as she is everlastingly Dressed to Kill (See Ephesians 6:10-20).  In our interview below, the Atlanta-based vocalist talks fashion, inspiration, and reveals more about her latest EP, Who's Like Our God

MUSIC

What is your talent/passion, and when did you begin your pursuit?

My talent and passions are God, people, music, and fashion I have loved them all from as far back as I could remember.

What have you done over the years to enhance your talent/passion?

With music, there is always room to learn and grow. So, I'm constantly learning from others. Sometimes, I work with a vocal coach. I work with a coach on stage presence. I write weekly. I always want to better each time I step on stage.

What do you find you are most inspired by?

People inspire me, and I want to write music that inspire people. I want to write songs that give hope.

Who is your favorite artist/group from the 90's?

Fugees, Bebe and Cece Winanns, Save, escape, 702, Destiny's Child, all those girl groups from the 90's were on fire. Really all of 90s R&B was pretty amazing!

Do you travel, and if so how do your travels inspire your work?

Yes the whole family loves to travel, I'm inspired by everything if I'm on a beach  the wind and the scenery can inspire a song like "Like A Breeze" if I'm in a different country it may inspire me to write about gratitude. Inspiration is everywhere.

Favorite vacation spot?

I love different places for different reasons. I really love warm places so if I pick a warm place it would be the Atlantis in Nassau Bahamas. I also love London, people walking on the streets were dressed to the nines, and thought to myself these are my people. People are up on their fashion there. If I had to pick a kids/ family vacation spot by far it would be the Nickelodean Resort. It was amazing.

FOOD

What is your favorite food/dish?

I'm not a big foodie. I really love desserts and sweets. I don't have a favorite because I love them all.

Have you ever been inspired by food? Like, have you ever had food so good, you broke out into song/dance? I've had a dessert so good... I love the warm apple cobbler at Houstons. I could eat that every day. I love it so much that last Thanksgiving I ordered a pan of Apple Cobbler from Hostons. The most expensive pan of cobbler I've ever purchased but well worth it.

What food/dish is your hometown known for?

I'm originally from Peoria, Illinois but I was raised in Houston, Texas since the age of 3. So, I consider myself a Texas girl. I think we are known for a good bar b que.

FASHION

Tell me a about your style

I don't have a specific style. I really love all things fashion. What matters to me is how it fits and how I feel in it. One of my favorite things to do is mix rough and soft, urban and high fashion.

I call myself The Swanky Budgeteer, because I have a knack for expensive/high-end clothing, accessories and 5-start travels at outrageously discounted prices. Do you budget shop? Thrift?

Prior to having kids, I was the person that never looked at the price tag. Since having kids, I really have turned into a budget shopper. I have always end loved Forever 21 but I have now discovered TJ Maxx and the Runway Collection, Marshall's, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Off Fifth, and here in Atlanta we have at least 3 outlet malls that aren't too far from where I live.  I enjoy finding a good bargain. I'm not that big on thrifting, or couponing, however I'm not opposed to it.

What is your favorite era in fashion?

My mom always says that their is nothing new under the sun. I believe the same is true for fashion. Everything we see is a reinvention of something that someone has seen before. I really love the old Hollywood glam of the 20's and 40's. The 60s' had some pieces that I would have rocked. I love where fashion is right now also.

What do you want the readers to know about you, and your latest project, Drea?

I have a single on iTunes, Amazon, and spotify titled"Who's like our God" my EP will be titled New Day hopefully we will have a spring/ summer release.  What I would like the readers to know is on my EP there is a song on it for everyone. It's music that is meant to uplift and inspire. I hope through the music they experience Gods love and grace. I pray that the songs touch their hearts and it points people towards the cross and allows them to experience God in a very tangible way.
